Student & Family Responsibilities
Students are expected to attend scheduled lessons on time and prepared.
Daily practice is necessary for progress. Trust me, I am very keen on the commitment practicing requires. The basic expectation is that you practice the length of your lesson 4x a week. If that is not possible, it is WAY better to practice for 10 mins 5 times, than 1 hour right before a lesson. Practice structure and skill is something I also work on in lessons, so if you find yourself or your kiddos struggling, be sure to let me know and I would be happy to spend some time working on how to have a successful practice time at home.
Parents, if something is going on at home, please do your best to make me aware so I know how to best work with your child both in the lesson and on practicing goals.
I do reserve the right to dismiss a student early from their lesson due to lack of practice if it becomes habitual.
Tuition, Billing & Books
Tuition is for the time of the lesson, materials, preparation and expertise.
You can find lesson rates here.
Your payment is expected at your stand alone lesson / the first lesson of each month / the first lesson of the summer. I require a 30 day notice in order to cancel monthly lessons and 48 hour notice to cancel a stand alone lesson.
Books are not included. At your first recurring lesson you will also be responsible for a $50 surcharge. You can expect that charge to be every 2(ish) years.
If you have books you’ve used in past lessons, please bring them to your first lesson.
Cancellations
Please notify me asap if you are unable to make it to your lesson. I understand that sickness, traveling and other conflicts will occur. You have the option to reschedule a missed monthly lesson within 7 days if schedules permit. Your lesson is reserved for you whether you are present or not and therefore will not be refunded if you cannot attend for any reason. Summer lessons have greater flexibility within their package limits.
I reserve the right to reschedule or cancel a lesson an average of once per quarter. I include this in the monthly pricing and if it exceeds this for any reason, I will prorate your next month!
Recitals & Group Lessons
I typically hold two events throughout the year. At the end of the fall semester we will hold a Christmas themed group lesson where students will perform, collaborate and play some games to celebrate our work in the semester. At the end of the spring semester, we will hold a formal recital to showcase all they have learned throughout the year. I typically try to partner with a retirement home or other “like” facility to be able to incorporate service into our celebration.
