about me!

Hi, I’m Shanna!
I’ve been teaching music for over 15 years, but my love for it started much earlier—when I was just four, taking piano lessons to ease my anxiety. Music quickly became a lifelong passion and I’ve followed it, in various capacities ever since.

I’m trained in both classical and contemporary styles and have had the joy of performing in school and community choirs, concert and jazz bands, church music teams, musicals and hosted songwriting retreats. Today, I lead a school choir and handbell program and I also offer various private lessons from my home.

My teaching blends the structure of classical training with the creativity of modern music. I love helping students build solid skills while exploring their own style and interests. I value thoughtful, collaborative learning—and I’m especially excited to work with students who are curious, committed, and open to discovering what music can be.

I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, made it through adolescence in Billings, Montana, and now call Salt Lake City, UT my home. My husband, son and I live in the Cottonwood Heights area, where we’re looking forward to growing our family.

When I’m not teaching or making music, you’ll find me camping, reading & writing, redecorating or reorganizing something, messing with spreadsheets (yes I’m a nerd) or simply relaxing with the people I love. My favorite color is yellow. Ducks are sweet. Winter is superior. Beagles are best.
